Food For Thought… (10.3.12)

The Echo Life is about discipline and how discipline is a bridge that can connect the conversation between the physical, mental, and spiritual. Really our goal is simply to get you to think. We believe that it takes a certain level of discipline and purpose to really think about what, how, and why we do the things we do.

As an illustration consider this spot that I heard on NPR. It addresses the marketing of food and clothing. Marketing agencies employ the brightest people to get you to buy a product. In this case the NPR article addresses vanity sizing. What is vanity sizing? Here’s a quote from the article. “What used to be a (women’s) size 8 in the 1950s has become a size 4 in the 1970s and a 0 in 2006.” The idea is that marketing agencies change labels to appeal to your vanity. The same is true for food labeling. Vanity appeals to us all, and companies will use it to sell their product to you.

How Food And Clothing Size Labels Affect What We Eat and What We Wear

Read the article. What do you think? How should we respond? We want to hear from you.
